Free Atmakaraka and Darakaraka calculator
Enter your birth date, time, and place. We load D1 planetary longitudes, take the seven classical grahas (excluding Rahu and Ketu), and mark Atmakaraka as the one with the highest degree in its sign and Darakaraka as the one with the lowest.

Darakaraka (DK) in plain language
Among the seven grahas used in this ranking (Sun through Saturn), the one that sits last when ordered by degree within its sign is labelled Darakaraka. Readers often treat it as one signal for partnership tone: what you gravitate toward in another person, and which virtues friction around love tends to polish. It is a starting hypothesis, not a verdict — house, sign, aspects, and vargas still decide how it plays out.
Atmakaraka (AK)
The same seven-body list, sorted the opposite way, puts the most advanced-in-sign planet first: that is the Atmakaraka. It is widely read as a compact handle on a lifelong curriculum: the traits life keeps returning to until they mature from strain into skill. Again, dignity, dispositor, and timing layers must qualify any one-word label.
Rahu and Ketu: not in the degree table
This calculator ranks only Sun, Moon, Mars, Mercury, Jupiter, Venus, and Saturn by how far each graha has moved through its current sign. Rahu and Ketu are left out of that list on purpose: their D1 longitudes are not shown in the results table and they cannot become Atmakaraka or Darakaraka here. That matches the common seven-graha chara-karaka method taught in many Jaimini introductions. Nodes still matter for other techniques on your chart; they simply sit outside this AK/DK degree contest.
Using the calculator on this page
- Enter name, gender, date, time, and birthplace (saved profiles work the same way as manual entry).
- Submit the form; the server pulls a minimal D1 degree extract, keeps Sun–Saturn only (Rahu and Ketu excluded), and ranks those seven by degree within sign.
- Read the summary cards for AK and DK, then scan the table for the ordered Sun–Saturn list and exact arc in each sign — no node degrees appear there.
- If the birth clock is uncertain, treat the ordering as provisional until a reader rectifies or confirms the time.
Planet-by-planet: common AK themes (illustrative)
The following rows are mnemonics, not predictions. Your AK's sign, house, and strength rewrite the story completely.
| Graha | Core tone | Growth edge |
|---|---|---|
| Sun | Visibility, integrity, role | Serving purpose without hunger for applause |
| Moon | Feeling, memory, care | Steadying tides instead of drowning in them |
| Mars | Drive, courage, boundaries | Aim fire at worthy targets, cool the blaze after |
| Mercury | Analysis, speech, trade | Truthful agility versus clever evasion |
| Jupiter | Guidance, faith, breadth | Generosity without sermonizing |
| Venus | Harmony, art, union | Pleasure anchored in values, not drift |
| Saturn | Endurance, craft, sobriety | Keeping promises to yourself across slow seasons |
Planet-by-planet: DK as a loose sketch of attraction (illustrative)
These are archetypes only; the DK's rashi, bhava, and links to the seventh lord paint the real portrait.
| Graha | Partner-flavour shorthand |
|---|---|
| Sun | Direct, principled, unafraid to take space |
| Moon | Attuned, domestic intelligence, emotional literacy |
| Mars | Passionate doer, protective, kinetic chemistry |
| Mercury | Playful mind, banter, curiosity as romance |
| Venus | Aesthetic sense, warmth, courtship rituals |
| Jupiter | Steady counsel, ethical backbone, big-picture calm |
| Saturn | Loyalty through seasons, seriousness, quiet reliability |
Reading AK and DK side by side
Think of AK as the long arc curriculum and DK as one relationship-coloured lens on how intimacy accelerates or tempers that curriculum. A Jupiter AK with a Mercury DK might pair a growth-through-belief story with a partner who keeps conversation and adaptation central. A Saturn AK with a Venus DK could mix duty-first maturation with lessons in receptivity and shared pleasure. The useful question is never labels alone, but how those two grahas disposit, aspect, and time with dasha.

Questions people ask
- How do I know which planet is Atmakaraka without software?
- Hand method: list Sun–Saturn only, note each longitude inside its current sign, pick the largest value for AK and the smallest for DK. Our tool automates that on D1 using the engine's degree fields.
- Why exclude Rahu and Ketu here?
- This page follows the common seven-graha chara-karaka ordering used in many Jaimini primers. Rahu and Ketu degrees are not listed in the results table and never receive AK or DK labels here. Nodes still matter elsewhere in the chart; they are simply outside this particular ranking.
- Is Darakaraka always about marriage?
- It is a relationship significator strand in many traditions, but serious work checks the seventh house, navamsa, upapada, and current dasha before naming dates or outcomes.
- What if two planets share the same degree to many decimals?
- Rare, but the backend breaks ties with finer arc seconds, then a stable name ordering. If birth time is fuzzy, verify with an astrologer — tiny clock shifts can reorder close calls.
- Same house for both karakas — is that special?
- When AK and DK activate the same sector, partnership and personal evolution can feel tightly braided; still read sign lord strength, malefic aspects, and divisional support before declaring a single meaning.
