A worked example
Take the name Riya. R is 9, I is 9, Y is 7 and A is 1. The total is 26, and 2 + 6 gives 8. Her name number is 8.
Three numbers from one name
The vowels alone give the Soul Urge number (atmaank), which is read as what you want deep down. In Riya, the vowels I and A give 9 + 1 = 10, which reduces to 1. The consonants alone give the Personality number (prakat ank), which is read as the face you show. In Riya, R and Y give 9 + 7 = 16, which reduces to 7. The two add up to the same 8.
Which name to use
The name number is read from the full name as it was given at birth. Many people also look at the name they use every day.
